If you’re wondering if you even need to book an engagement session, the answer is absolutely YES! But not for the reasons you may think. A lot of the times couples believe that engagement sessions are unnecessary, that there’s no use for them, or they’re for formal reasons– but that’s not the case. So before I share Gianna and Matt’s beautiful session at Matador Beach in Malibu, CA let’s debunk three myths about engagement sessions.
Myth #1: Engagement sessions are unnecessary because we’ll have wedding photos.
Reality: Engagement sessions serve a distinct purpose. They provide an opportunity for you as a couple to get comfortable in front of the camera, build rapport with your photographer, and capture images that reflect your personalities and the love between you and your significant other! The engagement session is a chance to celebrate your engagement and document this special time in your lives BEFORE you get married!
Myth #2: Engagement sessions are only for posing and formal portraits.
Reality: Engagement sessions can be whatever you want them to be! If you want to capture candid, playful, authentic moments– then that’s what your session can be about. Engagement sessions are often an opportunity to showcase your personalities, interests, and the connection between the two of you as a couple.
Myth #3: Engagement sessions are just about having nice photos for save-the-dates.
Reality: While capturing a nice photo for a save-the-date is a good reason for an engagement session, it’s not the only reason. The session can also allow for you to create a collection of images that can be used for a variety of purposes, such as displays at your wedding, sharing on social media, creating a guest book, or simply capturing memories of this chapter in your relationship. An engagement session is a chance to capture you and your significant other in this season of your life that can be cherished for a lifetime.
