Today on the blog, I am sharing the Smith family’s memorable family session! Keep on reading to find out why this sweet family is just so precious to me!
Allow me to go back to the very (VERY) beginning of my career. . .
I was just starting to shoot weddings. At the time, I had shot just a handful before Emily contacted me to shoot her wedding.
I met with Emily and Robert and they were (and still are) adorable. Emily had the cutest taste and was a total bombshell. They showed up for engagements dressed to perfection and we had ourselves one heck of a time! She also brought along her big brother Matt (she is the ONLY girl in her family!) and I instantly had a new BFF!
I knew right then and there, that we would be lifelong friends. While my style has 100% changed since 2011 when she got married (yay for personal and professional growth), they grew right along with me and my business. When I decided to invest into my business and set up a booth at my very first bridal expo, they were there to help me!
Both, Emily and her brother came and greeted future brides with me. Sitting in the living-room styled booth of mine with Matt during the expo is still one of our favorite pictures we have together! They were true-blue clients turned forever friends!
Fast forward a few years later, and Mama Smith had been diagnosed with brain tumors. She would undergo TWO brain surgeries to remove them. The family was given the news that she likely wouldn’t make it past a year and they were on limited time. So, they called me and we set up a family shoot IMMEDIATELY! I felt so sad for their grieving family, yet so honored that they would ask me to capture lasting memories for their family.
And guess what?? This woman has defied the odds! It has been FIVE years since her surgeries and she is still here!! Needless to say, they have cherished every extra moment with her.
So this time, the phone call was a celebratory one!
“Brooke, it’s been 5 years since our last family portrait…and we need you!”
While Mama Smith couldn’t stand for them, I think we did one heck of a job! The outfits were coordinated to perfection (Thank you Matt and Emily!!) and it was SO fun to see how much everyone has grown up! The “Fab Four” are still killin’ it per usual and it just made my whole heart swell to be included in yet another milestone for their family!
So yeah, you better believe I am truly thrilled to be sharing their session with you today!!
Family photos are a ton of fun, but they can be hard to coordinate- especially with kiddos! That’s why I created my Family Sessions: What to Wear Guide. It’s totally FREE and meant to help ease the stress of all the planning, so be sure to grab your copy and let me know what you think!
If you have any other questions regarding family photos, be sure to get in touch! I am happy to help you however I can!
