Pine Trees and Winter Colors | Katie + Sean | Utah Engagement photographer

Pine Trees and Winter Colors

First off, let me just say that I love, love, LOVE how the navy and pink that Katie and chose to wear for this engagement session complimented the winter backdrop and these pine trees. It was so romantic. Utah winters can be SOOOO long and maybe I was just excited to see bright colors popping against the wintery snow covered ground. LOL! These two braved the cold, with Katie being daring enough to go without a coat. I’d say it was worth it.  Once you see their photos (and her cute floral dress) I’ll let you be the judge.

How They Met

Sean and Katie met over four and a half years ago, in an LDS church ward for single adults at BYU. It was August of 2012. When Katie moved from Arizona to Utah and into Sean’s ward, they ended up in the same Family Home Evening (a once a week get together on Monday nights) group. The tow of them were both getting their undergraduate degrees at BYU!

Love Story

Katie had a crush on Sean as soon as she first met hime! Let’s call it LOVE at first sight! He was so tall and athletic and confident but also goofy and authentic. The two of them grew to be good friends, having out a lot those first couple years, all the while with Katie wanting to date him!!! Too bad he didn’t feel the same way. Katie says it’s because Sean is so picky and didn’t date a lot. Katie says, “I tried, believe me I tried, we went on a few dates but he wasn’t feeling it so we stopped. It was so frustrating to me!!” So Katie would date other guys only to break up and end up haning out with Sean. She felt so comfortable with him, but was always still so frustrated because he didn’t want to date her! Their friendship became stronger and stronger over time. And then it happened, Katie moved back home to Arizone after graduating from BYU and Sean drove her all the way there and once he flew back to Utah gave her the call she had been waiting for. He called to tell her that he had, for over a year, developed feelings for her but of course didn’t tell her while she was still in Utah! She had just gotten out of a serious relationship and he wanted to give her time to get over it. She was shocked he actually had feelings for her. FINALLY!!! too bad they were now living 650 miles apart.  After living in Arizona for a year, Katie moved back to Utah, much to her chagrin, but she felt it was the right thing to do. The two quickly spent a week in Disneyworld right when she moved back to Utah, think 100 degree weather with 100% humidity and 18 hour days with no sleep. Guess what, these two gotsooooo sick of each other after that trip. When they flew home, Katie told her twin sister that she would NEVER date Sean. Then…two weeks later, she changed her mind. After giving it some thought and wondering if she was giving up too soon, she called him up, and told him we needed to date; actually commit and see what happened. He was hesitant and nervous at first (KAtie admits she was pretty pushy. HAHA!!!) but he agreed to give her a real chance. The rest is history. They dated and say it was the BEST relationship either had ever been in. He surpassed her wildest expectations. Sometimes don’t we all need a little extra push?!

Falling in Love

It took Katie a little while to figure out if she was in love with Sean or not, as evidenced by the story above. SOOOOO funny! She started feeling it when he told her the first time but sge knew for sure for sure when he proposed. After that, she was done for! She was all in.

The Proposal

Sean took Katie on a hike up past Sundance up to Stewart Falls…in January. It was FREEZING but fun!! Since Katie loves hikes, especially snow hikes, she knew he was going to propose. She was waiting for it. They got to the top of the falls, as far as they could go in the snow, and then he stopped to take a picture with her. She thought the proposal was coming right then, but then he turned around and started back down the mountain.  Katie said she was heartbroken! She was thinking maybe he changed his mind or got cold feet! Literally…. Then they came around this little bend to this path in the snow, lined with red rose petals and tea lights. He followed her down the path, which opened up to this little clearing where a fire pit was set up, with chairs, a small table with a picnic basket set up, and dozens of roses. Well done Sean. Well done! They sat down, talked for a little while and that’s when Sean started getting emotional. He asked Katie to stand up and then  got down on one knee! With Sean already emotional, Katie started getting emotional too and then started bawling! He proposed and it was perfect and wonderful in every way! To her surprise, his sister and brother in law were hiding in the trees in the snow taking pictures! It was so romantic and perfect.

What They Love Most

Sean and Katie are truly the best of friends. He compliments her perfectly, and she him. Their senses of humor are perfect for each other. They both love to serve and communicate. They both love problem solving. They both have so much fun together no matter what they are doing, which is something both of them value so much! Katie and Sean are different in so many ways but it’s perfect for them and works completely. He respects her and wants the best for her. He is so supportive of her,  believes in her and all of her potential. She says, maybe even more than she does for herself.  Knowing he would literally do anything for her and wanting more than anything for her to be happy is enough to melt my heart!

What They Love to Do

Sean and Katie love eating together, hiking together, going on trips, driving together, researching and planning things together! They love watching stupid movies and going to Jazz games and baseball games!

Looking Forward To

Katie says she can’t WAIT to have Sean as her forever roommate!! Cooking together, planning together, not having to say goodnight, having a partner in life to work together with on all their dreams and goals for their future. They seriously cannot wait to start this next chapter of their lives together.
