With all the snow we have received in the last week, I have been DYING to get these snowy bridals at Jordan Pines on the blog! The scenery honestly can’t be beat! The view of the mountains and pines covered in snow, her bouquet, her dress, and that fur had me SWOONING! And now that their wedding day has come and gone and I won’t be ruining the surprise of “The Dress”- I am plastering these bad boys everywhere! Before we dive in, I want to give a little side note to this post….these are all FILM images.
Why Film
I jumped two feet into shooting film back in late October. However, I found it incredibly difficult to know when to shoot what and felt overwhelmed (and a little silly) to ask my brides (and grooms for that matter) to hold so still AND to sometimes do things for extra long so I could switch from film to digital or vice versa! I didn’t have a system down, I didn’t exactly know what I was doing (still don’t!) but I knew I LOVED the look of film and wanted to try it and push myself out of the box! So lucky for me, my good friend Kenzie had a HoldFast Money Maker (which is just about the greatest thing to ever happen to me!) and let me borrow hers at a wedding that I knew I wanted to shoot both film and digital, but needed to be able to transition smoothly. After 20 minutes of shooting…I was HOOKED! So now fast forward a month, and I had my very first session of the snow season scheduled and they would be THESE beautiful, snowy bridals and I knew Mandy’s florist, who was the one that actually sent to me and is an ANGEL (email me if you want her info!!), so I KNEW I needed to be on my game but was WAY nervous to shoot film in the snow! How would I change them? Would my hands freeze? Would her dress blend in with the snow? There was NO way of knowing despite how many times I looked on the back of the camera after shooting a frame! HA! So, imagine my surprise when I get all my scans back from TheFindLab and they are BEAUTIFUL!!! The snow for these snowy bridals at Jordan Pines DELIVERED!!!!
Feeling Brave
I also shot this entire session with my digital camera. That included a first look as well and a ton of images BUT I am feeling very brave right now and a little vulnerable. These were shot with a 35 mm camera and not one of the huge fancy ones that costs thousands of dollars that all the top film photographers have. But I am proud of them, proud of my execution in a new setting and proud of the journey I am on. I have yet to offer film to my brides, and at this point I am still just shooting for me, but maybe one day soon I will offer it to my clients, if I can stand the pressure! 🙂
