Three Reasons to Book an Editorial Session

If you’re a photographer, feeling a little stuck, book an editorial session! Think about this, a session where YOU choose the location, you choose the model(s), the DREAM dress. You work with other creatives in the industry on the perfect florals, the jewelry, the decor, hair and makeup. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but it could be just the thing to get your creative juices flowing because you get to choose how you shoot, how you pose them, etc. So if that didn’t convince you, here are three reasons to book an editorial session.

3 Reasons to Book an Editorial Session

1. It helps build your portfolio and diversify it!

Booking an editorial session (or styled shoot) allows you to demonstrate your photography skills and unique style. This, in turn, helps attract clients who appreciate and are seeking your specific aesthetic.

You can also collaborate with various vendors, giving you exposure to different themes, decor, settings, etc. And that results in a more diversified and appealing portfolio.

2. Book an editorial session to network and build relationships

The cross-promotion that naturally occurs when vendors share the stunning images from the shoot, crediting your work, is a gateway to reaching a wider audience and securing potential clients. This interconnected web of relationships is the lifeblood of a thriving wedding photography business, with each connection potentially leading to referrals and future collaborative ventures.

3. Be able to explore creatively and enhance your skill

Editorial sessions afford the liberty to experiment because these images aren’t being delivered to a bride and groom. You can experiment with innovative techniques, compositions, and lighting scenarios. Essentially pushing the boundaries of conventional wedding photography!

Springville Art Museum Editorial

I booked an editorial session not too long ago where I chose the dress, the location, the florist, and the stunning model, and just had fun with it! I chose the Springville Art Museum in Utah and if I do say so myself, it was the dreamiest location. 😍  But YOU let me know what you think!
