Meet the Family
Janauari and Jess are a past bride and groom of mine, and I have had the privilege of taking their family photos ever since. Fun fact: That’s a total of five years!
Januari and Cole are a beautiful blended family. Januari brought Kylie into their family and Jess brought Cole. Together, Januari and Jess welcomed Jack into the family! Cole, their oldest, is no bigger than Jess. So, being the funny dad that he is, Jess was your typical embarrassing dad in this shoot. I loved every second of it, but I’m not sure about the kids haha!
It has been so fun getting to watch this precious family grow!!
About the Session
Januari always, always, always has the best color palettes, style, and taste. That being said, it should come as no surprise to you that this session’s color palette was freakin’ gorgeous. For reference, Januari’s dress is from Free People and their daughter Kylie’s dress is from J. Crew. *cue all the heart eyes*
The Brererton’s session was super fun because their youngest, Jack, was finally of the age where we could bribe him to participate. Meaning, we had lots of treats on hand for smiles, giggles, and tickles! The year beforehand, however, Jack wanted nothing to do with pictures. We had to take lots of breaks and wipe away many tears all throughout the session. So much so, that we ended up attempting a second shoot on a separate day to try and get some photos of Jack actually smiling. Instead of getting upset with Jack, Januari just let him do his own thing. She never got upset with him or frustrated. It was more like, “Well, that’s who showed up today…that’s real life for ya.” And this is exactly what I love about her!
If you’re reading this and you’re nervous about doing a family shoot for this very reason, remember that this is just how kids are! And it’s totally okay. Photographers get it. And if they don’t, well, they’re in the wrong profession.
Photobooth Fun
Because Jack matured enough to have fun in this photo shoot, we were able to make it all the way through and end it in my favorite way…with a photobooth shoot!
This is where I give families a countdown and they pose like they are in an old school photo booth. This is one of my favorite things to do because everyone is silly and their personalities really shine through!
I just love how their session turned out and know you will too!
