FACT: Figuring out what to wear for your family photos does not have to be difficult!
Let me let you in on a little secret called “color palettes!” The best thing about picking a color palette is that all the work is done for you! Thank you to all the human beings in the world who have an eye for design and created palettes to help those who are not so fortunate, am I right?! There are color palettes for everything you can image- home decorating, fashion, etc., and they will tell you what does and does not go together!
Another trick? Draw colors from your location and incorporate them into your wardrobe. BAM! Look at the color wheel! If your backdrop has a lot of cyan, find a way to incorporate some magenta details. Is your backdrop a stark white like the Salt Flats in Utah or snow? Try something that will POP like bold (not neon) colors.
My last trick — and certainly the most important one — is to be careful with patterns. Try and think more texture and less patterns. Small patterns are fine…just as long as they won’t detract from your faces! Avoid large, bold plaids and super-contrasty stripes. Because more often than not, less is more.
Today on the blog, I’m sharing some of my all-time favorite color palettes from some of the family photos I’ve had the privilege of capturing! I hope they inspire you!
